Interview with 3 Kisses

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 18, 2016 9:47 am Tagged With: hard rock, Metal, Rock

3 Kisses

In this interview we spend a few minutes with Alaska based rockers 3 Kisses to talk about their upcoming release Angels Bleed Black, influences, and surviving in this digital age.

Introduce yourself to our readers and describe the style of music you create.

We are 3 Kisses, based in Wasilla, AK, and our music has been described as “a big metal pot of punk rock stew.” That’s a fairly accurate way to describe how we incorporate elements of punk, rock, hard rock, and metal into our our original compositions. All of our tunes stand alone and have their own personality. I started the band in Austin, TX, in 2004 and have directed it from that time. We currently have Tish Meeks (that’s me) on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Drew Owens on lead guitar and Dale Payne on drums. Our bass player recently departed the band and we’re holding auditions at present to fill that slot.

Who or what influences your playing and/or writing styles? Also, what motivates you to keep creating?

We are influenced by everything we listen to as individuals – which is quite a broad spectrum. We don’t attempt to sound like other artists – we just do our thing and it comes out sounding like us. Of course, you can hear hints of our influences here and there, but we don’t identify with any particular artist or genre. We are motivated by the sheer love of music to keep doing what we do. Music is a lifestyle for all of us and we’d be lesser humans if we didn’t continue to write, record, and perform.

What was the last song you listened to?

Probably something by Volbeat. I’m digging them pretty hardcore at the moment.

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?

One of our biggest challenges is our location. Alaska is pretty isolated with a small population. Getting down to the lower 48 to tour is no easy feat. But, we do have plans to tour next summer – hopefully, the east coast.

Do you gig, tour or perform through any live streaming services? Where can music lovers see you perform?

We haven’t utilized any of the live performance mediums as of yet, but that is something we will be doing in the future. For now, if you want to see us live and in person, I recommend a vacation to Alaska. 🙂

Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?

Facebook is the best place to connect with the band. We all monitor the page, so we are pretty quick to respond. We have more music on iTunes and we will be pre-releasing a brand new album on our official website, www.3kisses.com, within the next week or two. It is called Angels Bleed Black. We also shot 10 videos for that album, so YouTube is a great place to get a better idea of what we’re all about.

Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?

We love to hear from our fans, so we’d like to invite anyone who wants to connect with us to contact us on Facebook. Shout out to all of our fans from around the world – thank you for your unwavering support. You guys rock!! Words of wisdom? We are just a bunch of musicians who try to make music that people can relate to and hopefully, make the world a little brighter place.
