A review of Manchester’s Newest Indie band: Uncle Sam Shot My Pony

by Featured Guest September 26, 2015 8:21 pm Tagged With: indie, Rock, Tennessee, United States

Hello everyone,

This is my first band review on MidTNmusic and before I begin I want to express my excitement for being added on to the writing staff here at MidTN and I look forward to my time here.

Uncle Sam Shot My Pony

With that out of the way, let us get to the good stuff. Uncle Sam Shot My Pony is Manchester’s Newest Indie band and I absolutely love their sound. This Indie trio consists of Josh Cox on guitar/vocals, Shawn Davis on bass/vocals, and Jacob Norwood on the drums.

Upon discussion with the guys, I discovered that they draw an influence from a variety of artists including Alice in Chains, Jimi Hendrix, Tool, and Led Zeppelin. These guys blend their sound into a very unique blend of catchy lead lines, groovy drums and bass, as well as a wide range of vocals.

If you’re looking for something mellow that uses a lot of major seventh chords, look no further than “When Words Can’t Get the Message Through”. In my personal opinion the music in this song has sort of a smashing pumpkins vibe mixed with a lot of Jack White vocal influence and it comes together to form a mellow, yet powerful and emotional piece of music.

If you like Tool and Maynard Keenan, I highly suggest checking out “Never Changing Worlds”. The music and vocals have a very “Tool” feel to them but also has a unique twist that only this band can deliver.

If you want something that’s got a southern rock attitude with a mostly spoken but rhythmic vocal line, check out “Uncle Sam and the Repo Man”.

No matter what your tastes are, Uncle Sam Shot My Pony will leave You wanting more. Down below is a link to their ReverbNation page in which you can check out all of the aforementioned songs.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
