In this interview spotlight, we speak with Autrey to discuss influences, the new release, and more.

Full Q&A, links, and streams can be found below.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?

Because the first time I heard it I had trouble describing it. It was something so new to me. It’s not typical, and that made me curious.

What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?

I’ve always been quite shy, and I’ve always found music to be my way to speak. Starting about 6 years ago, I began struggling with depression and anxiety, and that is what inspired Chemical Lonely. In the song itself, I paint the listener my own picture of depression. I feel like it’s meant to be shared because of the opportunity to connect to somebody.

Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?

People’s stories and backgrounds influence me the most. My taste in music changes all the time! Coming from Texas, I originally loved country music, but now I am more into electro-pop.

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?

I hope to build a relationship with those who take the time to listen. To me, that’s the greatest thing about music: it’s a universal language. I am able to put my thoughts and experiences into the universe and find the people who relate.

What was the last song you listened to?

“Lost on You” by LP.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

I want to say Vinyl because they are so cool to have, but honestly MP3 is my favorite because I can store them in one place right at my fingertips.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

I love Spotify because they always have the best playlists for every genre and mood. It makes so easy to find new music.

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?

Definitely finding people who will take the time to listen to my music and hear me out. Especially living in Nashville where everybody is so talented, it’s hard because everybody is doing the same thing: trying to break out and get people to notice them.

Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more music?

I am more active on my Instagram page, and I keep people up to date with announcements, music, photos, and videos. I am on Twitter and Instagram @autreyofficial
