Bill Abernathy Shares Stories Over Beautiful, Folk Soundscapes, Crossing Willow Creek Now Available

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman January 9, 2019 9:25 am Tagged With: Americana, Country, Folk, Kansas City, Missouri, songwriter, United States

Kansas City, Missouri based singer/songwriter Bill Abernathy has arrived with his latest album, Crossing Willow Creek, which takes us a on a journey through enchanting roots music sound beds that set the tone for his prolific storytelling approach to writing.

A story that might resonate with some of us, Bill fell in love with music during his youth and spent his teenage years writing songs. Then that pesky thing called life happened. Bill found himself focused on marriage, he began building his career in business, kids came along then grew up and found their own careers.

As many parents before and after Bill have and will experience the feeling of the “empty nest”, that extra silence and downtime gives one a chance to look and ask… “What happened to the last couple decades of my life?!?!?”

I have no clue if Bill actually asked himself that question, but I do know, with kids out of the house, he found himself gravitating back to music drawing inspiration from the ups and downs he had been living during his hiatus.

“Inspiration for my music comes from a variety of the many parts of my life,” Bill says.  “Events and experiences of mine, my family, my friends, and sometimes even people I have never met all, contribute to the creativity of my music. I find it interesting and rewarding to let my imagination wander through the memory and spirit of life events and see where it takes me.”

A lyricist by nature, Abernathy lets the words and the story guide his musical compositions. When he dropped his 2017 album, Find A Way, he found himself peaking at #5 on the Roots Music Report Traditional Folk Album Chart. his single Goodbye Will Never Come Again hit #1 on the singles chart.

His new album is titled Crossing Willow Creek. According to the single Willow Creek, this location is a special place for Bill and his creativity. Packed with 11 songs ranging from slower, acoustic-driven ballads to more gritty, foot-stompin’, roots-rockin’ jams, this album will be enjoyed by listeners who prefer a little more traditional style in their folk and Americana collection

“Sometimes life is good to you and gives you a second chance. In my youth I walked away from music for a myriad of personal reasons. Now, I’ve now been given a second chance to pursue this thing we love called music, and I am really enjoying the ride!”
