Bomb Squad Rookie

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 1, 2014 12:04 pm Tagged With: Canada

Bomb Squad Rookie I recently received a copy of Bomb Squad Rookie‘s self-titled album and here’s another one to add to your new music playlist.

In 2010, “between the dredges of empty dance floors and packed walls of venue halls, Bomb Squad Rookie was formed”.

After hiding out in Beardly Studio, this powerhouse has emerged with an album packed full of energy, raw emotion, and pure hard rock frequencies with a twist of punk attitude.

The musicianship and songcrafting is on point and on the upper echelon of the scale but the real beauty and power {in my opinion} comes from the lyrical content.

“We are the kings of the ocean, we make the waves that cause the erosion….YOU WON’T DROWN US, YOU WON’T DROWN US…”

At this point, I’m standing in my chair, fists in the air, ready to break something… and we’re only 45 seconds into the first track.

After setting the tone for the entire album, we enter into a world full of “Smoke & Mirrors”. Another musical masterpiece layered with pounding lyrics; the energy not missing a beat.

“Leave The Blood In Your Veins” showcases the groups ability to harmonize while still managing to rock your socks off.

“Killing In Confidence” shows the first signs of slowing things down with its more mellow intro but the energy quickly picks back up as the vocals scream “you won’t take me back to the nightmares of yesterday”. This track has the “pop appeal” of a radio ready single and if it isn’t receiving spins yet, someone needs to help Bomb Squad Rookie with that.

Honestly, this band has the sound to be major. Topping off at 8 tracks, this album is nothing short of in-your-face, heart pounding, gut wrenching hard rock. The lyrical content is thought provoking and attention grabbing and I guarantee you will walk away with 1 or more songs stuck in your head.

Back to the song titles. I have to mention my favorite 2… “Chivalry’s Not Dead, You’re Just A Bitch…” and “You Put The Mean In Meaningless”.

You need some Bomb Squad Rookie in your life…starting now.
