Bonnaroo Discovery #2 – Bombino and Jeff The Brotherhood

by Featured Guest February 26, 2013 8:28 am Tagged With: Bonnaroo

2012-06-10 23.12.22I present to you the MTM Bonnaroo Discovery guide. Now go ye and discover new artists and maybe in a couple of years they will have moved from beyond the end of the list to be the headliners.
So, without further ado here’s the next two!

Bombino:

If you’re a fan of music from around the world, Bombino is for you. Bombino is a vocalist and guitarist from Niger. His music, sang in his native tongue, is like a window into his life, which has had him travel all around the world. He manages to capture the rhythm of Africa and infuse it with a bluesy guitar, which he at times manages to almost make sound like a sitar. His last album, Agadez, actually got the attention of Dan Auerbach of Black Keys Fame who is set to produce his forthcoming
release.

Jeff the Brotherhood:

I’m not going to lie, when I first looked up these guys the first thing that I thought was “Oh great another two-piece, White Stripes/Black Keys wanna be,” I couldn’t have been farther from reality. These guys are definitely not a simple blues duo. One second you’ll swear that your listening to a Jethro Tull and Ramones Mash Up ; I could swear they used a phaser on a flute, and the next you’ll believe that someone slipped you a hit and your transported back to a garage somewhere in alifornia. I should also mention that I love the decal on the drummers kick that reads “JEFFRO TULL” these guys know exactly what they are doing and they are damn fine at it. Oh Yeah! I almost forgot. These Guys are also our neighbors here at MTM. They work with the man himself, Jack White, on his Third Man Records label here in Nashville where these boys were born and raised. Count me there ladies and gents.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
