C Bret interviews Brian Mackey in Nashville

by C Bret Campbell April 21, 2012 12:00 am Tagged With: Americana, Nashville, United States

Intrepid Jedi, here, saying “Howdy” from the big city with the Batman Building… Nashville. A little live on memorex update on the Middle Tennessee Music scene.

I got to sit down Monday morning with Brian Mackey, musician from the Big Apple, who has been down here in the heart of country promoting his indie release of his last record “Honest Love”.  In this video, is an introduction and we talk a bit about 25 years of pickin’.

No stranger to the South, and it’s laid back atmosphere, the Florida – New York transplant (yeah, that seems backward) seems as comfortable here and suited for a horse and a mountain, as he would on the bustling streets of Manhattan. He sauntered up in t-shirt and cowboy boots, and I knew him right off… taller than I expected, dude would be great in a Western film. We hit it off with some aimless wandering looking for a good location, and ended up at Portland Brew. Great coffee! A bit noisy for recording, but, well, we were on a schedule.

We spent a couple of hours together, and actually caught some of it. Several hours of noise processing by Small Barn Sound, and we got about 24 minutes. Afterward, Brian showed me some pics of a house he’s looking at up on the state line. I gotta say, the cat’s cool, and we’d welcome him as a local fixture in the Middle Tennessee Music Scene.

Check out some serious independent americana, and download “Honest Love” on www.reverbnation.com/brianmackey

Lotsa thanks to Brian, his manager, Beth Slocum, and team at Richlyn for letting us do this! We’ll get part II up as soon as possible.
