Cass McCombs playing Bonnaroo 2014

by C Bret Campbell February 23, 2014 6:58 pm Tagged With: Bonnaroo

CassMcCombs-FacebookStill loving the Bonnaroo 2014 lineup and now I’m checking out Cass McCombs on the tube… You can find ‘im all over the place. Pitchfork has a whole tome dedicated to Cass.

“OVER THE LAST DECADE, MCCOMBS HAS BEEN A REMARKABLY CONSISTENT SONGWRITER [AND] HE’S QUIETLY BECOME ONE OF AMERICA’S FINEST CHRONICLERS OF FRINGE CHARACTERS, A WRITER OF HEART-RENDING LOVE SONGS AND PSYCHEDELIC ODES TO THE NATURAL WORLD, A TELLER OF TALL-TALES WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR DRY AS DESERT WOOD, AND THAT RARE FOLKSINGER WHO ACTUALLY SINGS ABOUT THE FOLK.” PITCHFORK

McCombs’ song County Line is a mellifluous treat with subdued guitars and a haunting rhodes holding things down. The lyric has that “stick in your head” quality that’s so hard to define and it’s got some depth to it, too, so I’ll be spinning it a few more times to really catch it.

My favorite shows at the Roo are the smaller ones I like That Tent in the early evening and The Other Tent late night. Whether main stage, one of the tents, or on the Sonic Stage (maybe my fave) I’m gonna be at this one fer-shur-buddy.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
