Come Into My Kitchen and Meet David Vella

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman September 10, 2012 11:48 am Tagged With: Americana, Blues, Folk, Rock

David Vella-The Voice Auditions

David Vella originates from Chicago, Illinois but this man has done a little bit of travelin’ in his time.

David once was the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter for Satya Graha which released their first album on Ardvark Records in the UK. After Under the Skin released in 2003, the band split ways.

David decided it was time to go solo and headed to Olive Branch Studios in Las Vegas to record Sorry. David now resides in Austin, Texas with his family and is working on a new album. His music is a mirror, possibly a soundtrack but definitely a soundscape, to his experiences.

Although his ReverbNation page labels him as Americana/Folk Rock/Southern Rock, David should add the Blues to that list.

I hear elements in his music that take me back to the days I first started learning guitar. Immersing myself deep in Chicago and Austin style blues, learning riff after riff, and absorbing as much Robert Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Buddy Guy as I possibly could. This music takes me back there.

You can also hear influences from Jim Croce, Kings of Leon, The Black Crowes, and Jeff Buckley. Needless to say (but I’ll say it anyway) David has great taste.

If you have heard of (the show) The Voice, David auditioned in Dallas and made it into the Top 90 (out of thousands) that passed onto the second round. Yes he’s polished, he’s accomplished, and it sounds damn good.

Including elements from an eclectic mix of genres, I have yet to skip a track. David has heart, he has soul, and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

You can grab Sorry from Amazon or iTunes.
