This week has been packed full of great new music for my listening pleasure and diNMachine’s newest album Dance To Reason keeps this trend going strong…like a mug of dark roast on a beautiful Friday, no cream – no sugar.

Michael J. Schumacher is an award winning, critically acclaimed, Julliard graduated composer and sound artist. Yes…I said sound artist.

The background is a colorful collage of everything we love about the rebellious spirit of rock and roll. From the peak of the mountain, the river of formal musical knowledge descends weaving through rocks and ridges giving life to the valley below.

The river branches into tributaries which spread the knowledge to all forms of blooming life. Colors become noises, noises turn into frequencies, frequencies slowly blend themselves into melodies.

The melodies explore the depths of the valley and the highs of the sky. Those melodies find harmonies which then multiply and wander onto new paths. Compositions begin to form. Brushstrokes add details, highlights, nuances, and quirks.

As your eyes adjust and you are forced to absorb the beauty, you feel awakened. You resonate with the world and the world resonates with you.

In front of you is a universe full of noise and sound. All you need to do is play with it.

I have just described the journey through sound known as Dance To Reason.

Parallel to playing rock with my friends, I was studying piano with Seymour Bernstein, an amazing teacher who opened me up to deep musical worlds. So there was this split between the rebellious, self-taught spirit and the solitary, more formal path, Michael explains. diNMachine is the delayed integration of the two parts of my musical life.

After reading the term din machine in an article by Rosalind Krauss (art critic), Michael became fascinated with its referential possibilities.

It’s not a response to the noise around us. It’s an expressive gesture that comes from within you, he clarifies.

Dance To Reason is one of a kind. It is an experience. And it is some of the funkiest and coolest jams I’ve tasted in quite a while.
