DJENTRIFIED Releases Two One-Take Vocal Performances, Captured Live in the Studio

by Leslie Sherman December 17, 2025 12:25 pm

Southern California’s Djentrified has released two new one-take vocal performance videos for “Welcome to the Abyss” and “THIS SONG SHOULDN’T EXIST,” designed for those who bear the burden of the world yet persist in facing it head-on. Filmed solo in a room with only a microphone, these videos distill everything down to the basics. What endures is emotion, genuine urgency and the commitment to appear authentically. In each performance Cousteau appears solo in a setting the shot focused and simple. There are no effects, no studio techniques, just a human voice confronting the moment with certainty. It serves not as proof of vocal stamina but also, as a reminder that beneath the weight lies a person communicating from a stance of compassion, fairness and ethical clarity.

“Welcome to the Abyss” carries the same emotional weight as the official music video, but the single-take format shifts the focus inward. Absent the distracting visuals the delivery comes across as intensely intimate blending anger, sorrow and determination. Every lyric conveys a fatigue familiar to many listeners accompanied by a subtle urge to maintain hope and consciousness.

“THIS SONG SHOULDN’T EXIST,” which rose in popularity this year on TikTok and YouTube assumes greater significance in this minimalistic environment. Behind Cousteau, projected visuals from the Gaza crisis are shown, featuring news clips, data and an updated death count that challenges the audience with a reality frequently minimized to mere headlines. The presentation shifts focus from spectacle to bearing witness. Cousteau’s manner of delivery is consistent yet transparent, striking a chord, with individuals seeking sincerity in a realm overwhelmed by clamor, inconsistencies and evasion.

Releasing these videos together feels intentional, offering a space of recognition for listeners who believe that caring is not weakness and that action still matters. Djentrified’s music has always been rooted in empathy and resistance, not despair, or fatalism, and these performances make that unmistakably clear. They capture a voice that refuses to disappear, continuing to reach for those who see themselves reflected in the message.
