In this interview, we chat with Eyelid Kid about influences, the new project, and more.

Full Q&A, links, and the video for Landscape below.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?

I started early on by making very experimental music but as I grew in to my voice I wanted to bring some of the concepts in the music down to earth. As a result the sound became my own depiction of independent pop music. Being able to relate with more people in more places through my music was very inspiring.

How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?

I picked up the guitar and piano when I was in 5th grade and started composing original music for my school plays, but really started performing publicly in my middle school rock band.

Who or what influences your playing and/or writing? Also, what motivates you to keep going?

Honestly, my girlfriend Violett has somehow been a well of romantic muse but I take influence from almost any impact experience in life. If I’m feeling empty or uninspired I often take a trip out in to nature and explore the bigger questions I have for this world. Music has become the only thing I truly know so to keep growing and improving my sound just comes naturally.

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?

I want to build a creative identity with Eyelid Kid that is an alias of uncensored expression. From the beginning I’ve felt that the name Eyelid Kid not limited to music and I’ve exercised that through dabbling in fashion.

What was the last song you listened to?

I’ve currently listening to Roy Woods debut album “Walking at Dawn”. It’s killa.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

I prefer to own Vinyls but I understand the accessibility of subscription based streaming.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Bandcamp seems to have abetter platform for paying artists but I believe music should be as easily accessible as it is with Spotify and Apple Music in this day in age.

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?

One, I feel like I’m not very good at actively telling people who enjoyed the performance to buy the merch and follow us on social media. Two, I feel like I’m not very good at accepting compliments after shows, so if you know of alternative ways of saying “Thank you so much” **shy laugh** lemme know!

I’ll start by taking advantage of your last question!

Do you gig, tour or perform? Do you ever live stream? Where can music lovers see you live?

We do! We play fairly often in our hometown Austin and we’ve toured a few times through the rocky mountain region! We are planning on playing in New York and in LA in the near future!
