Gangsta Rabbi Releases Thrash Metal Cover of The Who’s Quadrophenia

Gangsta Rabbi

Every once in a while something so off the wall and out of the ordinary comes across to my attention and such is the case with Gangsta Rabbi’s thrash metal cover of The Who’s Quadrophenia album.

Gangsta Rabbi is multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Steve Lieberman who’s terminal leukemia has given him a year or less to live, as determined by doctors.

Steve, despite any and all obstacles, is going out in a true blaze of glory as any musician should. I will let you hear it directly from the Gangsta Rabbi himself,

In order to make my last time on earth as comfortable as possible, my doctors at Sloan-Kettering put me on a last-resort CHEMOTHERAPY aimed at relieving some of the symptoms, with no effect on life-expectancy. These meds are driving me through a state of MADNESS. My hearing is nearly gone and i have periods of DEMENTIA. Isn’t this the proper time to give up recording? HECK NO!! Every record i did since “Cancer Ward” is a miracle. i worked through debilitating ILLNESS with the strength and will given by The G-D of Israel Himself! In the 10 months since “Cancer Ward” i recorded and released 90 songs, 77 from the charity covers 4-cd set “Return of the Jewish Pirate” of which i started doing something crazy. i added 2 trombone parts to many songs. i later became obssessed with this and for “Blast-O-Rama”(27 Oct.2015) i had everything arranged by 4 bone parts=bass, tenor, alto and slide trumpet. what can be more nasty–fusing the bombast of punk and parade music in 7-minute bombastic songs. i was proud as the working of 4 trombones was quite challenging physically in my current state…continue reading.

If you enjoy lo-fi, garage, thrash metal and/or Quadrophenia, then this might be up your alley. However, it’s not something I would normally turn on. That does take away from the story or the uniqueness of this creation.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
