I Love The 1920s So I’m Really Loving The Gin Pennies

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman June 28, 2017 7:31 am Tagged With: indie pop, Jazz

Gin Pennies

West Coast indie pop collides with 1920s French juke joints in the new single from The Gin Pennies’, Film Noir.

As a person who loves most things 1920s, The Gin Pennies are a welcome treat to my ears. Their gypsy aesthetic is accented by upright bass, violin, trumpet and percussive guitar playing which creates a worthwhile listening experience.

Fronted by the sensual singer Shanelle Lewis, you will be unable to resist the allure of this nostalgia inducing, awe inspiring band.

When Shanelle moved from Ohio to Los Angeles she caught the attention of prolific songwriter Randy Wooten (The Bloody Lovelies, Willodean) who is a co-founder of Cheap Lullaby Records (Joan As Police Woman, Teitur, David Mead).

After Wooten heard one of Shanelle’s live recordings from Ohio he was inspired to start writing a completely new project starring her voice as the center.

Welcome to The Gin Pennies experience.

Film Noir is a smooth, jazzy tune teeming with emotion and that undeniably cool quality that emanates from all things vintage ’20s. Between Shanelle’s voice and those sweet trumpet lines, you will want to hear more after the song ends.

You can watch The Gin Pennies perform Film Noir below or on YouTube.

Connect directly with the band on their official website, FB or Twitter.
