Hater Huntin Season by NPC3

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman June 18, 2013 8:57 am Tagged With: Minnesota

Bio

NPC3 is a hip hop trio based out of Bemidji, Minnesota. The group consists of Big Mo-Berg, his brother Demo, and That Maniac Zack. MCs Big Mo-Berg and That Maniac Zack are known for their intricate, unflinching rap lyrics, while Demo compliments and contrasts the two rappers with smooth and soulful harmonies. All three artists have gone through significant adversities and struggles in life, both as a group and individually. They each have their own story, and their music speaks to their collective experience and voice.

On March 1st, 2011, NPC3 joined Rez Rap Records, an independent label started up by a group of individuals from the Red Lake Reservation, 30 miles north of Bemidji. Being that NPC3 is a white hip hop group, and not from the reservation, their joining the group came with a lot of misconceptions. “We were hesitant to join Rez Rap Records just because we knew the name itself would cause us problems, and a lot of explaining,” says Big Mo-Berg. “There’s a lot of racial tension up here, and we wanted people to focus on our music, not the controversy. We’re not pretending to be Native, or claiming the reservation. We’ve all got ties to the rez, and some of our closest homies are Native, but we know who we are. The reason for joining Rez Rap was the amount of talent on this team, and the tight bond that we created with them.” Rez Rap Records consists of a Red Lake rap group, 100 Souls (Wardog, Baby Shel, Thomas X, Jardin), producer Garlic Brown, and DJ and video director Divewire. “We’re all broke with a dream, and we’ve done everything ourselves,” says Big Mo’Berg. “It’s truly a blessing to have all this talent come together in such a small area. It’s not something you see often.”

NPC3 releases their debut album “North Pole’s Chosen Few,” on July 22nd, 2013. Every song on the album was produced by Garlic Brown Beats, and is testimony to the exceptional versatility and genuine talent of NPC3 and Garlic Brown.
