Heather Luttrell, Possumdiva

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 30, 2013 10:43 am Tagged With: Americana, Blues, Folk, Funk, Rock

Possumdiva by Heather Luttrell Without having to press play on this album, I already like it.

The headline of the One Sheet in Heather’s EPK reads:

Outlaw Americana for the Thinking Drunk

Don’t you like it already, too? Indie bands take note. Most of you still need to learn the meaning of EPK.

Heather Luttrell is the Possumdiva and since 2002 she has been captivating music listeners while building an unstoppable possum army.

You should go check out our interview with Ms. Luttrell. How many other songstresses do you know that grew up sleeping in their daddy’s guitar case?

Possumdiva is Heather’s newest release and also the first time she has shown the world the full power of her creative abilities. From the recording to the mixing to the CD Artwork, Heather maintained 100% creative control for the entire project.

Respect and Kudos!

So how does it sound?

It sounds like everything I am going to miss about home once my family makes our upcoming move to California (don’t worry, I’ll be back Tennessee).

Possumdiva is the morning dew sparkling on yesterday’s fresh cut fields. The banjos, fiddles, and mandolins colliding in harmony as the leaves dance in the wind.

The guitars control the energy while the bass and drums create the heartbeat which pumps Heather’s voice straight to your soul.

I have heard her live shows bring the house down. Her Southern hospitality goes above and beyond to make her possums feel at home no matter the venue.

You can feel this charm throughout the record.

Heather, an Atlanta, Georgia, native, grew up napping in her daddy’s guitar case. She followed in his footsteps, becoming a singer, guitar player and songwriter at a young age. Since Heather was 21, “Daddy” Ralph Luttrell has been an integral part of the Possumden and a frequent songwriting collaborator. A luthier by trade, Ralph joined the Army band during Vietnam, touring camps to entertain the troops. He also played with Possum Trot and wrote an infamous song about MARTA, Atlanta’s often-criticized public transportation system.

Heather’s band, The Possumden, includes Ralph Luttrell on the resonator, drummer Craig Henderson and bass/banjo player Emily Kate Boyd.

Some of you might remember Heather from her appearance on the 2005 reality television show Rockstar: INXS. She was a competitor on the show.

Outside of music the band members are also accomplished visual artists and created all of the artwork for Possumdiva.

So what are you waiting for? Go grab the album!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
