HVMM Interview – Lacerate

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 13, 2017 8:18 am Tagged With: Alternative, alternative rock, Rock, United Kingdom

HVMM

Worcester’s apoplectic rockers HVMM are about to unleash their debut EP Talk To Me like I’m Dead on 1st September 2017 via ILA.

Kicking-off with their ferocious previous single ‘Lacerate’, HVMM combine blues rock influences with eerie bass lines and melodic riffs to create something truly powerful. Lead singer Andy Teece’s sharp, distinctive vocal steals the show, sounding akin to the likes of Jack White or Rage Against the Machine’s Zach De La Rocha. Upcoming double a-side single Beggars and Thieves / Going Postal continue the band’s anachronistic and subversive themes with Beggars and Thieves slamming head first into unapologetic, heavy-laced rock and Going Postal’s impressively slick vocals from lead guitarist Ebony Clay complimenting Andy’s charged sound perfectly.

In this interview spotlight, we chat with HVMM about their newest project, influences, surviving the digital music age and much more.

Full Q&A along with links and a stream of Lacerate below.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?

The fact it can be manipulated and taken down a few roads. And Sam our drummer has a practice room and sadly isn’t into experimental.

How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?
As a band I would say around a year.

Who or what influences your playing and/or writing? Also, what motivates you to keep going?

A good go to for the band and one that I know everyone pulls things from is Led Zep. As far as Individually, we differ hugely! A huge motivation for me is the drive to actually create something I’m really happy with. When that happens I’ll either have stopped making music, or, be answering differently all being well..

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?

I think just being open to not knowing what is next from a creative point. I think the moment we can predict our next album before it’s been written, it’s time to call it a day!

What was the last song you listened to?

Morton Feldman – Coptic Light

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

Vinyl

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Spotify.. my brother has a premium account which I steal.

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?

Making music that warrants that attraction.

Do you gig, tour or perform? Do you ever live stream? Where can music lovers see you live?

Yeah, we do all of those things. Our next gig is at Tramlines in Sheffield. If you check our website out you will find all the live dates.

Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?

Our website will have all the links to what would satisfy most digital needs. You can find it at wearehvmm.com

Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?

Our debut EP “Talk To Me Like I’m Dead” is out on 1st September!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness.
