I am Rawson – Pull Up Clean ft. Mystic Mic

by C Bret Campbell December 10, 2014 8:06 am

iamrawsonIt’s not every day that I listen to six hip-hop tunes in a day, much less spin the same one six times in a row! IamRawson sent over his latest “Pull Up Clean” featuring Mystik Mic, and I’m hooked!

Dude spits rhymes nice and smooth, “see most these rappers shooks” they don’t have any sense of timing and can’t even get on the 1 (for crying out loud I thought James Brown would have got the point across decades ago). Not the case here. IamRawson is dead on. Words fall out his mouth like water from a country spring.

“Pull Up Clean” is groovin all through. Cool little rhodes piano and bass hold the tack down while IamRawson and MystikMic remind us to pick up and make certain that everything we do is top notch. That’s good advice especially in this age of “that’s good enough, it’s just facebook.” If more rappers and musicians in general would take this little tidbit, my job would be a lot more fun and more difficult 🙂

See, this morning is getting weird for me. I’ve not only spun the track requested enough to really dig it, but I’m still on the page just lettin’ it roll and fixin’ to roll …

For a great example of that smoothness and timing I was talking about, check out “D&T” and if you’re into a bit of the traditional hiphop attitude, grab up on “They Doubtin On Me” great stuff for sure!

All through these tracks you’re gonna find cool guitars, synths, trap and kit beats, and damn cool vocals! Yeah, I’m hooked… gonna Pull this one up Clean and add it to all my playlists!

RoKK on, IamRawson! I got your back!

Born Aug. 16th 1991. Goes by his middle name, “Rawson”. Born and raised in the dirty south, “TN”. Got into hip-hop and started writing rhymes for fun at the early age of 15. Got started by his best friend while chillin at his farm in Springhill, just hanging out with not much to do. What started as a hobby quickly turned into a passion as he discovered he had a knack for writing clever rhymes and had a smooth flow. Started out with the very same friend who got him into hip-hop in a rap duo making songs for fun in the garage to pass the time and putting them up on “soundcloud”. Although he has recently broke away to do his solo thing. He loves making music simply for the love of music and as a great way to express himself creatively. Coming from a humble background, he is very down to earth. He’s been through a lot and payed his dues. Didn’t go to college, he has worked several jobs to get by. His parents (Dad a car salesman) (Mom a hairstylist). Have been hustling to provide for him and his brother all his life. He wishes to one day return the favor and provide for them with his music. Now he is focused more than ever and trying to take his game to the next level. http://imrawson.flavors.me/

Update – Interview:

Q. Tell me a little about the track.
I’m not sure, is that a mix of samples and “played” instruments? The bass sounds pretty real even if looped.
A. I’m not exactly sure about the beat, it was giving to me for use by a dope producer up in Virginia who goes by Bitter Wilson. I’m pretty sure he uses samples and live instruments mixed in.

A. I”m basically saying pull up to the spot in a clean ride, like looking good while you’re whipping around town in your car.

A. I was born and raised in TN. I would say TN and and the south definitely has an influence in my sound especially rap from Texas.

A. I’ve been writing rhymes for 8 years, Now I’m looking to start doing more shows and getting exposure wherever possible.

A. Rocky road or cookies n cream, depending on my mood.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
