Ian Ward Bridges Broadway and Pop on His Cinematic New Single “Ocean Eyes”

by Leslie Sherman October 31, 2025 6:33 am Tagged With: 2025, Broadway, indie, new music, New Single, singer, songwriter, United States

Broadway powerhouse Ian Ward steps confidently into the spotlight of his own story with the release of his new single, “Ocean Eyes.”

Recognized for commanding the stage in Rock of Ages Hollywood and performing alongside Cynthia Erivo in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl, Ward now channels that same theatrical fire into a lush pop soundscape.

Built on a swirl of warm analog synths, echoing guitars and a falsetto that seems to hover midair, “Ocean Eyes” captures that dizzying ache of memory and the tenderness that lingers after love fades.

Listen here:

Ward’s voice, which is equal parts velvet and voltage, anchors the song with real emotional precision. His phrasing shifts seamlessly from intimate confession to soaring release.

“This version of Ocean Eyes came from one of those quiet moments after everything falls apart,” Ward says. “It’s not a breakup anthem – it’s more like an afterglow.”

That sentiment radiates through every measure. The track isn’t about heartbreak so much as it is about the echo of something once beautiful, and the grace of holding space for what remains.

Ward’s Broadway background gives him a commanding sense of dynamics, with each verse building like a scene, and each chorus bursting like an emotional reveal. It has a cinematic feel about it without being over dramatic, deeply felt without tipping into melodrama. The production is full of atmospheric textures, which allows Ward’s vocals to remain front and center and allows every breath and falsetto turn to shimmer like light off water.

Ward says:

“Theatre trained me to tell stories through other people’s words. My original music lets me tell my own. Ocean Eyes feels like the bridge between the two: it’s where my Broadway theatricality meets the pop stage, and where I finally get to share my own voice.”

In the broader arc of Ward’s career, “Ocean Eyes” feels very much like both a declaration and a turning point. Having trained at the University of Miami before performing in major stage productions (Working Girl, Jesus Christ Superstar), he has spent years telling stories through others’ words.

Now, as he says, it’s the bridge between theatre and pop, structure and spontaneity, that makes “Ocean Eyes” so compelling.

For Ward, this is not just a cover song but a re-imagining, a reclamation and the sound of an artist firmly stepping into this next act.

About Ian Ward

Ian Ward is a Brooklyn based singer-songwriter, actor and creative entrepreneur whose work bridges the worlds of Broadway and modern pop. With over two decades of experience in the entertainment industry, Ward has built a career defined by storytelling and a magnetic stage presence.

He made his professional theatre debut at just eight years old and has since performed on Broadway, toured internationally, and appeared in film and television earning a Golden Ticket on American Idol along the way. He is known for his standout performances in Rock of Ages Hollywood alongside Frankie Grande and Nick Cordero, and Jesus Christ Superstar at The Hollywood Bowl with Cynthia Erivo.

As a songwriter, Ward blends pop hooks with a rock edge and the emotional depth of a Broadway vocalist. His debut EP One Shot introduces a soul infused sound that continues with this latest single. The track embodies what he calls “the bridge between my Broadway theatricality and the pop stage,” a space where emotion meets escape and every note tells a story.
