Imagine Dragons gives you Night Visions

by Featured Guest September 30, 2012 7:21 pm Tagged With: Alternative, Electronic

There’s a lot to like about this album, Night Visions by Imagine Dragons. It gives me whiffs of Dexys Midnight Runners, U2, and O’Malley’s March. Yet at the same time there are elements of Electronica that I don’t believe anyone has done with Irish flavored music before. (If I’m wrong, please tell me.) But this is 2012 going on 1950.

ImagineDragons300X300

Imagine Dragons formed in Las Vegas in 2008. They are four piece band and apparently not afraid to fight their way to the top. Numerous “Battle Of The Bands”, five EP’s released, even a few television shows have used a couple of their songs. Hey, they’ve even been on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. And even Jimmy Kimmel. You can look for them on Tim Burton’s upcoming release “Frankenweenie” the motion picture soundtrack.

The music on Night Visions is familiar yet alien. Sound cliché? Consider the bands I mentioned at the top of the article, Dexys Midnight Runners, U2, and O’Malley’s March, yeah those guys. Imagine them being produced by a gentleman known as Alex da Kid. There is a serious Electronic influence to this entire recording. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve a small studio set up at my house and try to do the same thing. But I’m old, man. You did a great job Mr. da Kid!

My favorite song is “Hear Me”, because the words speak to me. But there is no Youtube posting of that song, so here’s a link to “It’s Time”. I think this is a great set of lyrics, and a marvelous video. The song “Radioactive” caught me off guard. Just make sure your speakers are hardy enough to take the bass line.
