Indie Music Spotlight – Creative Cash Flow Challenge

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 5, 2016 1:38 pm Tagged With: indie music spotlight

Indie Music Spotlight by Middle Tennessee Music

This week kicked off Bob Baker’s 14 day Creative Cash Flow Challenge and I have been introduced to awesome independent musicians through the private FB group.

What is the Creative Cash Flow Challenge?! Learn about it here.

This week’s list is exclusively from creatives who shared their music with me in the group. Let’s go!

Christian D & The Hangovers – Keep On Rocking

Sounds like Joe Strummer and Nick Cave in a knife fight at Johnny Cash’s house….

If that quote doesn’t make you click, I don’t know what will.

eleven stories – Partners In Crime

Partners in Crime is the first single by eleven stories; an anthem against the prejudice that all vegetarians and vegans have to suffer in order to stand for their ideas.

Andrew McKnight – How High The Mountain

Nationally-acclaimed singer/songwriter and guitarist, Andrew McKnight, celebrates rural America, weaves masterfully crafted songs, humorous stories and poetic drama into a musical soundscape sketched with shades of Appalachia, tasteful slide and jazzy blues, feisty anthems, and rustic folk. 5 solo CDs heard on many public & community radio, plus NPR “Art of the Song” & “River City Folk” and XM/Sirius.

Joseph Tonelli – Wolf In Your Blood

Hailing from Colorado, Joseph Tonelli is a driven, passionate and earnest singer-songwriter whose music bridges the gaps between Justin Townes Earle’s Americana storytelling and Bon Iver’s ethereal soundscapes.

Joseph’s music is refreshingly stripped down to the bare essentials, allowing the sheer evocative power of his lyricism to shine through the sparse arrangements and direct song formats, making for a mood that feels timeless, yet highly individual and character-driven.

Bob Baker – Occupy Love

Soul Massage is a musical experience guiding you deep into the depths of your cosmic soul. Dive into the inner plane where pulsating rhythms, hypnotic vocals and sweet vibrations gently massage your fears and inner blocks, releasing them so that you can step into the brilliance and magnificence of who you really are.

Ready for a little Soul Massage? No table required 😉

Gansey – Broken

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBZIk5rKNSM

Gansey Music was set-up in 2016 to publish and promote the music of John Phillips. Gansey Music – based in Scotland – is a partnership between Emma Ainsley, artist and John Phillips, musician. John writes and performs the music, together they write the lyrics and Emma records and produces the tracks.

Nick Venturella – Light of Mourning

Light of Mourning represents hope in one’s darkest or lowest moment. For me, this album is about emotional and spiritual songwriting expressed and captured.

This album is about transformation — my own transformation and growth. Like the change of a protagonist who enters the unknown, facing conflict — both internal and external — to emerge on the other side grown and transformed into a different version of himself.

Michael Wilson Knowles – The Rock N Roll Time Traveler

Michael Wilson Knowles has come unstuck in musical time.

And a trip through the rock and roll music you love from the 60s, 70s, and beyond is the engaging result.

With his infectious optimism, riveting vocal stylings, and energetic, percussive acoustic guitar arrangements, Michael delivers a performance that makes people feel good. “He makes you remember the songs you forgot you loved.”

Born, as he says, with a soundtrack in his brain, Michael pours his heart and soul into every performance. His unique brand of entertainment appeals to the rock and roller in everyone. What’s he sound like? How about Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd meet James Brown and Talking Heads in a four-way tag-team match in which the winners are the listeners!

The Hildreth Avenue – Shipwrecked

The Hildreth Avenue is a Los Angeles, California, based singer/songwriter. In September of 2013, The Hildreth Avenue lost someone who he loved to senseless violence. This traumatizing event left him feeling powerless, and hopeless with many unanswered questions. Instead of giving up on life, The Hildreth Avenue turned to his acoustic guitar and journal in order to make sense of the lessons that Death had taught him. Currently at 23 years old, The Hildreth Avenue plays venues around Los Angeles, and Coffee Houses all around Long Beach, California in order to spread a message of Love, Hope, and Empowerment to those who are feeling beaten down by life, just as he was when he first started writing music.

David J Hope – Candlelight

Hamburg based pianist and composer David J Hope using his fingers to serenades us on his easy listening, ambient, classical composition “Candlelight”.

JJ Biener – Improv

JJ Biener is a musician, songwriter and composer based in Cape Canaveral. The above improv recording is as raw as it gets. Connect with Biener on Soundcloud to enjoy more arrangements and improvisations.
