Interview with AG Gatling – I’m Good Wit It

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman February 2, 2022 9:50 am Tagged With: gospel, Maryland, R&B, singer, songwriter, Soul, United States

AG GATLING

AG GATLING, from the Baltimore MD area, is a singer and songwriter, formally of the singing group GATLING, and in the past opened for Fred Hammond and Commisioned, and Lisa Page Brooks of Witness, and who also worked with record producer Rahni Song on several projects. AG GATLING is also an experienced producer and the co-producer of Readyave Production. As a minister, AG GATLING combines the Word, along with vocal arrangements and great music, to create and produce incredible songs.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with AG Gatling about the latest music, adapting during the pandemic, and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

I am originally from Baltimore, MD. My style of music is Gospel, uplifting, inspiring, but mostly it’s life and the Word.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

I’ve always had a passion for music, since I was a kid growing up in a very musically inclined family, I started playing the piano when I was about 10 years old.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)?

Last single, “SPIRITUAL VIBE” did really well, the beat, arrangements and lyrics helped the people that heard it get into a vibe that changed everyone around them. But this single, “I’M GOOD WIT IT”, changed the game for me (meaning) with having a relationship with God comforts me so that no matter if I am up or down, with God then I’M GOOD WIT IT!

Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

I’m always seeking to go to new levels with my ministry. Music ministry is just as important to me, I am here to bless somebody and if I can do this with my music (and I believe I have) then I am doing what I am called to do!

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

During these times, I said to myself, how can I continue doing what I am called to do but yet shut down? Then I reminded myself that I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHICH STREGTHENS ME! Therefore, I adapt not be being creative, but by being led by God, Him ordering my footsteps. I still kept pressing on with what I believe, and that’s His Word!

Creative wise? KEEP GRINDING! With writing, write like I have a new project waiting to be released!

What was the last song you listened to?

HOLD US TOGETHER by H.E.R.

I love her flow, her style of singing. This song is very uplifting for times like these. I am hoping someday, I get to collaborate on a song with H.E.R.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

MP3 Streaming, but I ain’t going to lie, I kind of do miss CD’s just to be able to open up the cover and pull out the sleeve to read the credits.

Music means everything to me, it’s huge in my life. The writing, creating, and most of all; how others are touched by it.

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

Are you trying to do anything special through your music?

I am trying to reach and bless as many people as I possibly can!

What do you stand for?

Honestly, as a minister, I stand for what God’s Word says; Jesus is love and that’s what must be displayed. I’m totally against hate of any kind. Again, God is love, we can speak truth, but display it with love!

I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?

I want to accomplish something special with my music, I believe it can be BIG! I’m not a major artist in the industry but I believe…I just believe that something BIG will happen with this single…Why? Because I BELIEVE!

Thank you!
