by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman April 18, 2019 8:20 am Tagged With: Acoustic, acoustic folk, Folk, Israel, Middle East, singer, songwriter

Ethan Gontar-Forever

Ethan Gontar is an Israel based musician, producer, and a singer-songwriter who primarily records covers and original songs with a strong foundation in acoustic and acoustic folk styles

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Ethan about his music, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Ethan Gontar · Forever (Feat. Anat Elbaz)

Where are you from and what style of music do you create?

I’m from Israel, and Most of the songs I create and will produce in the future is acoustic style, Singer Songwriter, maybe some acoustic-folk, But I don’t know what else I might combine in the future.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

Since I’ve known myself, I’ve always had musical instruments. I can not imagine my life without it. I keep looking at other artists, and take an example.

Of course I work on my own way, but I use a lot of tools from the side.

16 years back, where I first fell in love with music. I guess what motivated me to this point today is that it came to me from a young age.

What still keeps me moving is that I want to show myself that dreams do come true.

There are many more targets to conquer on the way.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

My previous release Very different from the last single, a different genre. I also produce electronic music, and my previous song “This Way” is approaching it.

I’m pretty sure about what I’m going to focus on, but I don’t really know, maybe I’ll combine them in the future.

It took me a long time to understand what I really want to focus on, in what style,  and in what way.

I’m sure I’m on the right track.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

Well, there are so many artists in this world who give everything they can, and don’t get enough attention. It’s very frustrating.

The hardest challenge is how you fit yourself into this world, from nothing, to what they (the artists) actually are. you want it.

You want to find your audience. You want to have an audience that will listen to the things you create, it’s the most wonderful thing in the world.

And no doubt, the world of technology is very helping to us. Today you can create a channel on YouTube, and distribute your songs and find your audience.

Of course it requires a lot of investment and perseverance,  but it’s possible. All the artists started from somewhere, isn’t?

What was the last song you listened to?

The truth? My last single, ha.

But really now? the last song I heard  was clocks by COLDPLAY.

Lots of love and respect for this band.

I take a lot of inspiration from them.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

MP3s is More convenient, yeah..

But I like the old school.

CD, no doubt.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Mmm …

I think I prefer APPLE MUSIC. Why? There’s something in their streaming service that I like. Looks impressive, more orderly for my taste.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

I’m active in lots of social networks.

The best way to connect with me is my Facebook page. That’s my corner.

I release there all my energies, and it comes down to good music.

Anything else before we sign off?

I want to say Thank you very much for hosting me, I hope to come here again with new things in the future.

There is so much to expect. see you soon.
