Interview with Alexa Ferr – If You Only Knew

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 11, 2018 10:57 am Tagged With: Canada, Pop, R&B, singer, songwriter, Toronto

Alexa Ferr-If You Only Knew

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Alexa Ferr about her latest release, motivations, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

Alexa Ferr: I’m from Toronto, Canada. I create r&b/pop music, but I am always open to try new genres and styles and definitely try to incorporate those into my music!

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

Alexa Ferr: I was always singing and dancing around since a young age. My mom was born in Italy, grew up in Belgium and moved to Canada at 18 years old in the 70’s when she met my dad. She didn’t know a word of English but she loved American music like Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Madonna, etc. Her influence and love for music always inspired me and I always felt that music was a way to escape whether I am creating it, listening to it or performing. I resonated with a lot of songs growing up that helped me get through tough situations and I naturally felt that writing about how I felt was therapeutic for me. So, one thing led to another, and I began releasing some music and ever since then I’ve been growing as an artist and really coming to my own.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

Alexa Ferr:”If You Only Knew” is different because there wasn’t a visual released with it. I chose not to release a visual and to let the music speak for itself.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

Alexa Ferr: I feel that the only challenges I’ve faced so far have been finding genuine people who want to help you out. I feel that artists signed to major labels go through the same thing too, because people may see the opportunities rather than just working with you because they respect you and organically vibe with you. Also, not that social media is everything to me, but it is hard knowing there are IG famous artists with over 100K followers whether they are talented or not, have clout and people nowadays often prefer clout over talent. But people are slowing getting it so I am sticking to what I believe in and God will place everything in His timing.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

Alexa Ferr: You can follow me on Twitter, YouTube, SoundCloud, Instagram at alexaferrmusic

Anything else before we sign off?

Alexa Ferr: Thank you to everyone who has supported me since day 1 and to those who are new as well! I can’t wait to release more new music for everyone to hear!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
