Interview with Allegra – If You Wanna Love Me

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman February 13, 2022 12:51 pm Tagged With: dance, London, Pop, singer, songwriter, United Kingdom

Allegra

Amassing over 3 million Spotify streams with just three released singles and quickly racking in 10 million TikTok views, UK-based pop artist Allegra is blossoming into a superstar-in-the-making. Following up her recent 2021 hit “Used to Miss You” which was supported by an official R3HAB Remix, Allegra makes her return with the sultry “If You Wanna Love Me”.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Allegra about the latest release, adapting during the pandemic, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from?

I grew up in London but my father is German, so I’m half English half German.

How do You describe your style of music?

I would say that my style in music is in between pop and dance, anything that is a feel good song – haha.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

I have always lived through music since I was a little girl. My mum always tells me stories how I was always singing to my mirror to Beyonce with my bright neon pink microphone. I guess I just wanted to take it a step further and see where it could lead me. I was never good in school and I didn’t enjoy it, I struggled. So going to stage studio was my way of releasing and doing something that I love.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)?

Through the 4 singles that I’ve release i think my fans can really see how far I’ve come as an artist. I feel like me and my team just keeps takes a step even further into the right direction and the more I release, the more I want to do. I see my 14 year old self dancing on rollerblades for my fist music video, to being more intermittent with my dance and showing my true self.

Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

When I was signed at 14 I tried many different styles, as far as country music to even rap music. It was fun and scary because I wanted to find my style and I think that I can finally say that I have and I’ve never felt more confident with my path that I’m taking with my team.

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented times? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

I think the pandemic definitely was a challenge as I just turned 18 and I couldn’t wait to finally start my music career properly after leaving school! But because of the pandemic it felt as if I had to wait even longer but I was able to write lots which became my singles which I released.

What was the last song you listened to? How does that artist/ band effect you? Influence you?

I’m obsessed with Rita Ora and Sam Feldt’s Follow me song that’s just come out ! I always put it on when I’m getting ready

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

I mean living in todays world I do love streaming platforms, especially Spotify as I can always find new songs and build my own playlists! Which I do all the time!

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

The best platform is Instagram: @allegraworld

and TikTok: @allegraworld_official

Anything else you would like to add?

Get ready for my next single!

You’ll definitely see a different side to me and I can’t wait to share it with you all!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
