by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman December 10, 2021 12:41 pm Tagged With: indie, New York City, Pop, pop rock, singer, songwriter, United States

Aro Rose

Amanda Rose O’Connor, known professionally as Aro Rose, is an American singer-songwriter. Born February 18th, 1999 in Manhattan, New York. Music has always been a huge part of Aro’s life. Growing up, she always had a passion for playing the piano and writing. Throughout high school, Aro Rose would write poems based on her own life experiences, and later they would be turned into lyrics. Aro also loves movies, a lot of her musical inspiration has stemmed from films and shows she loves.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Aro Rose about the latest music, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

I was born in Manhattan, New York. I grew up in New York and then I moved to Ocean City, New Jersey. It was great having the best of both worlds living in a big city and near a beach. My music style was all created from what I wrote on the piano. I think it has a pop and rock vibe to it and think its pretty unique.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

Music has always been a huge part of my life. My mother bought me a grand piano for my first birthday. She sadly passed away on 9/11. I know she wanted me to develop a passion for music. I believe people connect through music, I love it because music truly speaks to the soul.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

My first single “Damaged” was about accepting that you are hurting but finding strength in pain. I want “Damaged” to be a hopeful song. My new single “Tarrant” was written about the Alice in Wonderland movie. I am a huge Tim Burton fan and wanted to create something that emulated his work. “Tarrant” is about being unique and finding power in being yourself.

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

I love writing songs about movies and shows I love. Being in the house a lot lately, I have been finding inspiration in films. I love writing about certain characters I like, or scenes I enjoy. That is how “Tarrant” came to life.

What was the last song you listened to?

The last song I listened to was “Video Games” by Lana Del Rey. Lana is one of my favorite artists and “Video Games” is my favorite song. She is so authentic in her music and I find so much inspiration in that. Her music really connects with me and I think the greatest artists have a beautiful way of connecting with the listener.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

I love Vinyl, I believe it is so timless. There is something about Vinyl that is so nostalgic. I also enjoy streaming platforms for their convience but nothing is more exciting than playing a physcial record.

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

My youtube channel is Aro Rose, my instagram is @iamarorose. My Spotify is also Aro Rose. My website is arorose.com

I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?

Always follow your heart, don’t let anybody stop you from fulfilling your dreams. I believe that anything is possible, don’t let negative people discourage your passions. Live your life for you.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
