Interview with Ashes of Folly – Mid Tenn Listens Podcast

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 6, 2017 12:56 pm Tagged With: alternative rock, podcast, Rock

Ashes of Folly

Ashes Of Folly was formed in 2013 and is the brainchild of Perry, a Boulder, Colorado native and prolific songwriter. Currently based in Murfreesboro/Nashville Tennessee, Perry’s influences center mainly in late 80’s-early 90’s underground rock. Hints of artists such as The Pixies, Janes Addiction, REM… all the way from Deftones to Jeff Buckley, are prevalent in Ashes of Folly’s songs.

Production, dynamics, and Perry’s unique arrangements and AOF is comprised of a team of musicians, engineers, and producers, who have been a key element to the successful release of their first two albums ‘The Chemical Plan‘ (Nashville IndieTV album of the year winner) and ‘Ka-Tet.’ The same team performs live and in the studio with Perry to come up with the best possible results. The band has made their presence known in the middle Tennessee area and Perry has begun playing solo performances in Colorado and the Coastal Carolinas, to pave the way for future markets. Several Nashville/Murfreesboro performances and Festival appearances, as well as releasing their next record are in store for the team in 2017.

‘A Rich Man’s Pile,‘ a 5 song EP, is Perry’s 3rd release and was recorded at ‘Neon Leon’ in Nashville and ‘DBStudio’ in Murfreesboro TN. With this release (April 2017) Rawlings’ production takes the riffy style and and presents a bass and keys delivery with a driving acoustic feel to the guitar spectrum, further diversifying Ashes Live possibilities and opens doors to more musical exploration. A noted maturity takes hold in this record, but the playful, dark juvenile is still up front. Casting hooks and crying smiles. Turning garage dream riffs into soulful, catchy rock.

In this episode of our Mid Tenn Listens podcast Perry from Ashes of Folly joins us to answer a few questions about influences, the new release and more. Full video interview and links below.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
