Interview with Ashleigh Bankx – Angel

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman March 29, 2021 9:13 am Tagged With: R&B, singer, songwriter, Soul, United Kingdom

Ashleigh Bankx-Angel

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Ashleigh Bankx about her single, Angel, as well as challenges, technology and more

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I was born in Zimbabwe and I moved to the UK when I was around the age of 9/10. I was raised in Luton/London. I create music that I feel like creating; I do not like putting myself in a box when it comes to the creative process because honestly my inspirations vary. In my DNA is a variation of experiences, places, emotions, taste and sound, so I incorporate all of that into my music without any boundaries.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

Since I was a little girl, I’ve always known that I was blessed with the gift of singing. Singing has always been a part of my life. It has kept me smiling when I’ve been down, it has given me comfort in my lowest and it brings me so much joy that every time when I sing, I am able to touch people’s souls and share with them similar emotions or experiences. The world can be a very large and lonely place for some, but I believe that It’s less lonely when you know that there is someone out there going through the same things in life as you…. And that’s what motivates me to keep going.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

The release of “Angel” differs from my previous releases because this was my first official Single. I worked so hard to ensure that I delivered the best work for my fans. From the reactions and support that I received from them, I believe that making them proud was one of the best accomplishments.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

Technology through social media has allowed artists to have direct access to their fans – something which wasn’t easily done a couple years ago.

What was the last song you listened to?

One of my songs on my upcoming EP 😉

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

I grew up on MP3s ….so I have to remain loyal, it’s part of my nature lol

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

I appreciate all three of them because they all have something different to offer. I like variety and options.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

You can follow me on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and SoundCloud @Ashleigh Bankx to get to know me through my music. If you want to hang out once in a while and share memes, you can follow me on Instagram @ashleighbankx and Twitter @_ashleighbankx

Anything else before we sign off?

Thank you for hanging out with yours truly 😉
