Interview with AzraelRapsGood – Content

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman June 28, 2023 8:50 am Tagged With: Canada, Hip Hop, rap

AzraelRapsGood xThe Dirty Sample-Content

In this interview spotlight, I chat with AzraelRapsGood about his joint project with The Dirty Sample titled Content. We also discuss the impossible task of choosing a favorite song of all time, motivations, and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Are you able to choose a favorite song of all time? Or would you label this an impossible task? If yes, what’s the song? If no, what’s your current Top 3?

That’s definitely tough to answer because different moods or genres may call for different songs. I’d have to pick 3 different ones. In no particular order I’d say, “Mirrors” by Freddie Hubbard, “One Song” by Black Milk, and maybe “Gimme Some Mo” by Busta Rhymes. Those songs will all put me in a good mood.

What about this project makes you most proud? Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?

This project has that complete feel and that’s what I’m most proud of with this one. It’s got the underlying theme, which is content and how we absorb it nowadays, plus beyond that it has a well-rounded feel to it. It’s lyrical but you don’t have to focus solely on the words to appreciate it. The Dirty Sample provided a thorough soundscape for me to skate on.

What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?

100% the discography. It’s working towards a goal of having a catalogue. Rap is the format of getting out what I want to say and building a catalogue is the driving force behind all of that.

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.

I might say J Dilla. It would be kool to just sit there and watch him make some beats then go in. That would be an experience for sure.

What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?

Last song I listened to was a Knxwledge remix of a Musiq Soulchild song, I think it was called Best Friend. And my favorite all-time artist would be Gil Scott-Heron, the man was a legend and he never wasted a word.

Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?

Probably Instagram, find me at @azraelrapsgood. Or get at me on Bandcamp to find all of my music there.

I appreciate your time. Want to say or plug any other projects before we part ways?

Thanks for having me. Just want to plug this new project “Content” with myself on the raps and The Dirty Sample on the beats, it’s superdope and a solid listen. Bangers on it all the way through. And bigg upps to Hand’Solo Records for putting it out.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
