Interview with Banana Blonde – This Much Weird

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman October 3, 2018 6:19 am Tagged With: Alabama, Blues, classic rock, hard rock, Rock, Tennessee, United States

Banana Blonde-This Much Weird

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Chattanooga and Birmingham (Alabama) based rockers Banana Blonde about their latest project (This Much Weird), challenges, motivations and more. These questions were answered by Chris Harrington, bass player for the band.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We are from Birmingham, AL and Chattanooga, TN. Our style of music is a mashup of heavy rock, punk and blues.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

Music has always been a part of all of our daily lives since we were all young. Whether it’s been listening and sharing music with friends, going to live shows or creating. Our motivation to keep going centers around our overall love for music and the ability to create and see those creations take shape, shift, change and ultimately become something we can be proud of. Oh yeah, and having fun doing it. It’s supposed to be fun when it’s all said and done.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

The first release was all about making a statement. It was a straight-forward hard rock album. Everything was aggressive, loud and heavy. This new release was all about seeing what could happen if we just sat down and took a variety of raw ideas and coupled them with each band member’s favorite type of Rock & Roll. The goal with this album was to let each song speak for itself, where the last album was more about a common theme.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

One challenge facing indie bands today is the ability to stand out in some capacity in a music environment that has so many labels, even within rock itself. Sometimes getting too creative can water down the overall goal of a band. The use of Twitter and Instagram in this day and age is critical for any band, indie or not. Our social media presence will continue to be the driving force in how we share our music.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

The best place to communicate with us is on Instagram (@bblondemusic). However, you can listen to our music on Spotify, YouTube, Google, Amazon, or iTunes. We would really appreciate your support by purchasing a physical album from Amazon or CDBaby.

Anything else before we sign off?

Thank you for doing this interview and promoting our music! Any exposure to our craft is really important to us. I hope your audience stays connected with us online and continues to follow our musical path.
