Interview with Barret Turner – Wait

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman December 9, 2021 10:55 am Tagged With: Pop, producer, R&B, singer, songwriter, Soul, Texas, United States

Barret Turner-Wait

Barret Turner is a producer and singer-songwriter from Dallas, Texas. It all started when he was just a kid and picked up a guitar. He was constantly making music but never seemed to let his songs go further than the four walls of his room, until now. For the past 5 years, Barret has been diligently working on his craft to now be able to share with you these new songs. These songs are unique and personal to Barret, so much so that he has been releasing each song as a new single every month. His newest single release ‘Wait’ is the last of these 10 singles. ‘Wait’ was written and produced by Barret featuring an undisclosed singer.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Barret about the music, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

Hey! I’m from Dallas TX… I would describe my music as emotional with a sense of Hope.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

I love music.. I want to do something i love…. So i figured i would try to live out my life doing something i truly enjoy… Even if the odds are slim. I want to know i at least gave it my all.. That is what inspires me.. Happiness, If i can be happy and inspired and full.. Then i can put that energy into other relationships i create through my life.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

I think it fits in the same pocket as my other songs but i do feel like i branded this song better than the others.. My friend Alec Lizantez helped me with the photography and i think all the photos went well with the cover art and music video that i made for the song.

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

It gave me time. Work slowed down and events and distractions… Where it gave me more time to work on music… The only Challenge was less work but i took that and just made more and more music.

What was the last song you listened to?

I really am into a artist named “Branson” right now… The last song i listened to by him was “Heart Attack”

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

I’d probably say Streaming Platforms because that is where i listen to music.

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

I need to get better at social media but the best place to find where i create would be instagram… I tend to post my music and video work there.. my instagram is @Barret_Turner
