Interview with Biblical Jones – Step Your Game Up

Biblical Jones Step Your Game up 2022

When you think of the word “Biblical”, one may think of religion and religion can be defined as one of the most powerful forces on the planet. People will do almost anything for something they believe and Biblical Jones possesses that power. As a vocalist, he takes on the character of the song and transfers that emotion to the listening audience; thus moving one like religion. Working with Dj Spen along Grammy award winning producer Teddy Douglass for several years and being a part of the soulful house group “Jasper Street Company” has allowed Jones to travel the globe and let the world witness his spectacular performances. He is an entertainer and a true professional.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Biblical Jones about the latest release, adapting during a pandemic, metaverse junkies and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

I am from Baltimore Maryland. My music is Urban Tech House music. A crew of people I work with -production company- Muthafunkaz.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

I started singing in church at 5 years old where Mom was the choir director, so seeing came naturally, and speaking to people and performing just was a way of life. As I got older and in my teenage years, I was part of a theater group called Baltimore Care Connection where we toured to certain States, funded by the government, for AIDS Prevention and substance abuse prevention for inner city teens. The name biblical Jones comes from my doing spoken Word as I got a little older, because when I do my pieces, I move you like religion – not giving you a Love Jones, but a BIBLICAL JONES.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

My latest project is in the same vein as my previous project “Watch Me Werk” which got over 200,000 views on YouTube alone. It was an extension from the same old humdrum house music selections to introducing some new energy to that genre. To me, house music is somewhat stuck into a remake phase. There’s no originality there, you have some artists, most because of social networking, that fabricate things to make them seem bigger than what they are and to me that’s not true artistry. So, for a person like myself who has been all around the world and been doing this for quite some time, who’s also been in the top 10 in dance music charts, when you get animosity from no name DJs, I just tell them to watch me work. And if you don’t like the way your life is going, then continue on with the latest single… STEP YOUR GAME UP.

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

Not too much of a challenge for me. Although I’m an extroverted performer, I’m naturally introverted because I’m a creative soul, so instead of just being out on the scene which I’ve been for who knows how long, on the underground scene, I would prefer to stay at home and just make music and create ideas for those music selections. So, I consider myself to be a pure artist and for me, art should reflect life. I’m not going to write songs about happy-go-lucky partying and drinking, and the same old bull crap you hear about all the time.  You have things that are affecting our lives in the negative way, so my songs reflect the sign of the times.

This time last year I did a song and a video that’s on YouTube called “Freedom” right when everything was being shut down. I don’t consider it being controversial, I considered it being real because it’s what’s happening and if you can’t reflect the things that are happening all around you, you’re not an artist.

So, I guess in hindsight, some of the biggest challenges I had to overcome is just accepting the fact that some people just don’t want to hear about the realities in life. They just take blue pills and continue on into the Matrix, which is their own reality. These are future metaverse junkies.

What was the last song you listened to?

Just finished listening to some cuts off of KRS-ONE’s new album. I’m old school so of course it influences me, and it’s so refreshing to hear metaphors and similes and lyrical content constructed in a way that excites you when you hear the lyrics riding with the beat, making the marriage of the two, so incredibly hot.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

I prefer streaming platforms. Although I’m old school, I’m a tech geek. Why deal with devices that can break. The signal goes on. Even as kids, they were coding you for the future i.e., row, row, row your boat, gently down the “STREAM”, MERRILY, MERRILY, MERRILY, MERRILY…LIFE IS JUST A SIMULATION.

What do you stand for?

I stand for balance, equality, and freedom – peppered with exceptions on all three. People these days have a tendency to take things to the extreme. I’m not with that.

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

The best place to catch me is on facebook.com/biblicaljones . I’ve got three pages- one with an extras on Jones, and one biblical Jones lll for the biblical Jones fan page on Facebook, and also on Instagram. I do have a Twitter but not on it much cuz I think no grown man should tweet.

Anything else before we sign off?

Yes, in a few years the technology will advance exponentially, so far that you will not be able to differentiate between the metaverse and this existing reality. Then you may discover a book in the Bible called Ecclesiastes where it says there’s nothing new under the Sun, all things have already been done, then at that moment you realize the true Revelation in life is everything that is to come – it’s not coming but it has already happened, ergo you are already living in The Matrix and you never even knew.
