Interview with Blackwood – Train

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman March 31, 2022 12:48 pm Tagged With: hard rock, Nashville, Rock, Tennessee, United States

Blackwood

Blackwood is a hard rock band from Nashville Tennessee that formed in 2021 with members Chris O’Brien, David Dicks, Keith White and Steve Burgess. Their story began as a studio project that evolved into the power of what is now known as Blackwood!

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Blackwood about the latest music, surviving lock downs, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

Nashville Tennessee. Driving, groove intensive, and melody based hard rock.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

We all love music and creating it!  Music is the biggest common ground for us.  David, Keith, and Steve had previously had been writing music and were looking for a singer that would really bring these new songs to life.  Chris came along and blew us all away!  We all feel the music we are creating is worthy of the journey and can’t wait to see where it leads!

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

We all were in different bands prior to the formation of Blackwood.  We ranged from hard rock, to heavy metal, to blues rock.  We have recently released our single “Inundated One” with a new single, “Train” coming March 18th 2022 but soon you will hear that Blackwood takes elements from all our personalities and creates something that’s a bit unique we think.  Blackwood’s songs can be heavy hard hitting rock yet we also like to include the lighter touch as well.  We try not to be to boxed in as far as a genre and allow ourselves to just explore the music.

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

Well, there is always something to draw inspiration from. We are always taking time to discover new bands, or new work from familiar bands.  And even through hard times, something can always break your heart and unearth a lyric or a guitar riff.  We all draw inspiration from each other as well.  Its not hard to be creative when everyone gives it their all every time!

What was the last song you listened to?

Traipse by Tremonti, Hollow by Alice In Chains, Heart Donation by Green Dollar Colour, and Hallelujah by Underoath

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

A few of us are really into vinyl but we all use Spotify and Apple Music for streaming.

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

Facebook: Blackwood Music, Instagram: Blackwoodrock, YouTube: Blackwood and of course our website www.blackwoodrock.com

I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?

Rock is not dead. Inspired lyricists are not extinct. Meaningful music has not yet taken its final breath.

Look for our new single “Train” releasing March 18th 2022!!!
