African Nova Scotian Music Association’s 2025 Songwriter of the Year Blessing Tangban returns with “God Of…” – a cinematic, soul-stirring worship song that explores the beauty, vastness, and intimacy of God’s presence in every moment. Written on a mountaintop in Nigeria, the track captures the awe of encountering a God who is both infinite and near – the God of the mountain, the valley, the healed, the broken.
“This song is my reminder that God is present in every part of my story – from the mountaintop moments to the quiet, broken places,” says Tangban. “‘God Of…’ is a declaration of awe – for a God who’s not limited by our highs or lows, but is deeply involved in every detail.”
Recorded in collaboration with her producer in an intimate studio session, “God Of…” mirrors the simplicity and majesty of the mountain setting that inspired it. “We decided the song should be as bare and vast as the amount of space you’re exposed to on the peak of a mountain,” she explains. “It was just both of us in the studio – simple, easy, honest – and he captured my intention so well. I performed the song in one take and the rest is history.”
The track’s title is intentionally unfinished – “God Of…” – an open-ended phrase that reflects the endlessness of who God is. Its orchestral-inspired arrangement and minimal instrumentation leave room for stillness, while Tangban’s warm, soul-inflected vocals invite listeners into quiet reflection and reverence.
What can you share with readers about your new project?
“God Of…” is a very personal song for me. I actually wrote it on top of a mountain in Nigeria after a long hike. I was sitting there, looking over the whole city, and just felt overwhelmed by the thought that God — this big, powerful, limitless God — still cares about someone like me. That moment sparked the entire song.
How does this release compare with your other projects you’ve had in the past?
This one is much simpler and more stripped back than a lot of my older songs. I wanted the message to breathe. The production is light on purpose — it’s wide, spacious, and cinematic, but still intimate. It feels like a conversation with God. It’s probably one of my most honest releases yet.
What about this single makes you most proud?
Honestly, the way the delivery (both video and audio) came together. This song came from a real moment of wonder and confusion and peace all at once. I also recorded it in one take, and we shot the video on an actual mountain — Everything about it feels true to the moment that inspired it. That makes me proud.
Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?
I wanted the message to be clear. I didn’t want heavy production or anything distracting from the lyrics. I wanted people to hear it and just… pause. This song isn’t about explaining who God is — it’s about acknowledging Him and sitting in awe. That was the whole goal.
What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
My real life inspires my music. I don’t like to pretend or tell stories that aren’t mine. Everything I write comes from something I’ve lived or felt deeply. I think people can feel that honesty. That connection — knowing someone else relates — is what keeps me writing.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why?
I’m always drawn to artists who write from a real place and aren’t afraid of simplicity. Someone who values message over noise. At this very moment if I am being sincere, Nathaniel Bassey. Thank God he is alive and there’s a chance of this happening.
What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
Nathaniel Bassey, Sunmisola Agbebi, John mayer
Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?
People can find me on all my social platforms and wherever they stream music. I’m active online and love sharing what I’m working on.
Is there anything you’d like to share before we sign off?
Just that “God Of…” is really a song about awe. You don’t have to understand everything at once — God reveals Himself little by little as you live. If this song helps someone feel even a moment of wonder or comfort, that means everything to me.

“I don’t always understand how God shows up – sometimes it’s gentle, sometimes wild – but it’s always love. That’s what this song captures,” she adds.
The single marks the next chapter in Blessing Tangban‘s forthcoming third studio EP, a project that continues her exploration of faith, identity, and belonging. Building on the success of her 2024 singles “Teach Me” and “Prayer,” the upcoming EP weaves together African soul, cinematic worship, and folk-inspired storytelling – a sound that feels both grounded and transcendent.
