Interview with Cabela & Schmitt – Golden Links and A Deep Catalog of Music

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 29, 2019 9:04 am Tagged With: indie pop, Nebraska, Pop, pop rock, singer, songwriter

Cabela and Schmitt

Cabela and Schmitt are a trio of friends who have been collaborating for over 40 years. The musicians goal, at this stage in their lives, is to share with others what they have so freely and abundantly been given. Hailing from the heart of the United States and humble beginnings, hard work and perseverance was just a way of life. At core of it all, Cabela and Schmitt are songwriters and composers.

We all have the God-given ability to choose how we want to view this world. We are all given a voice, in some way or another, to communicate how we see and experience our world. It is our choice how and when to use that voice. We chosen to expose our thoughts, beliefs, and feelings in the best way we can…through a song.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Rich Cabela of Cabela & Schmitt about their music, motivations, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We are from western Nebraska and the inspirations we get come in many colors of music.  (Please take a listen to the download cards I sent you to understand what I mean)

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

When you are inspired from a young age and the moods, feelings, melodies, etc. come to you so freely, it’s best to follow them where they lead. We’ve been getting them for decades.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

Probably not much different. At this point, we are attempting to release and share as much as we can, so as many who are compelled by our styles can listen and enjoy what we do.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

All challenges are a state of mind. If you are willing to go forward and not allow bumps in the road to get in your way…a challenge is usually an opportunity in disguise.

Technology has been instrumental in our ability to reach possible fans, discover new sounds and allows us to collaborate from distant places.

What was the last song you listened to?

LAY DOWN THE LAW. One of our new songs that will be released in April.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

No preference…music is wonderful no matter how it’s heard.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

No preference…same as the last question

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

Facebook, YouTube, Soundcloud, cabelaandschmitt.com, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Twitter, Google… etc., etc., etc.

Anything else before we sign off?

Yes!  Thank you.We truly appreciate your time.

We believe music is meant to be heard, so we’re not so quick to promote ourselves…just the music.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
