Interview with Colossal Corp – Five n’Forever

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman October 7, 2021 12:58 pm Tagged With: Asia, Central Asia, hard rock, India, Metal, progressive rock, Rock

Colossal Corp

In this interview spotlight, I chat with rockers Colossal Corp. about the latest music, challenges, adapting during a pandemic and much more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

We are from Guwahati. A City from the Northeastern part of India. Our music has its foundation based on Hardrock with elements of Bluegrass, Glam metal , Rock n Roll, Pop and Funkrock into it.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

We as a band collectively love rock music and its various sub-genres, so you can say that’s the driving force behind our jam sessions, which later on developed into a passion to play what we love and what the crowd here basically wants. Besides that many great names from the rock industry like Journey, Whitesnake, Mr.big, Deep purple, Bonjovi etc has been our major look outs whenever we needed inspiration.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

Well the pandemic changed it all didn’t it? Our latest project is a testimony to the change that we incorporate always to every single song of ours. If you listen to our music you will witness difference in every one of them. But yes the latest song brought upon a central theme of the lockdown during the pandemic and the emotional toil on people in general. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBRj07bH1Rw

Regarding the 2nd part of the question, we always try to instill a theme for our song as we did for the latest one, which is a love song during lockdown.

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

Its very difficult to meet the rest of the band members and start something fresh. Our style of song writing involves a lot of random short jam session where we come out with new materials. Our very first single “The adventure of Mike O Bryan” was such song to begin with. Moreover with hardly any gigs to play and the death scenario every where the moral of the band goes down. Thank fully we had a few collabs with some other talent musicians and created some stuffs.

Besides we made several videos staying at home. An international guitar collab was also a major feature we undertook last year.

What was the last song you listened to?

I don’t keep a track on latest releases or such but the last two songs are Edge of desire by John Mayer and Iron maiden’s The writing on the wall.

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

Wish we are born in the era of Vinyl, then definitely would have preferred that …hahaha. But as of now anything substantial and with a decent sellout value is fine for us.

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

All the leading music streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple music, Prime music etc.)  and Youtube for our official and live music videos https://www.youtube.com/user/sarfthesurfer

Also our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=colossal%20corp.

And our instagram handle https://www.instagram.com/colossalcorp/

I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?

A big shoutout to the team of IMD for supporting us and giving us the platform to unveil ourselves. We are on a mission to keep a seldom followed genre nowadays alive through our music and we need every bit of inspiration for it. Once again a super rocking thanks from Colossal Corp.
