Interview with Comin’ Home The Band – All In

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman April 1, 2020 10:28 am Tagged With: alternative rock, blues rock, Florida, grunge, Rock, United States

Comin Home The Band-All In

Comin’ Home The Band is a grungy, bluesy rock and roll trio based out of Tampa, FL.  They have been playing around Central Florida for the last three years, making waves and a name for themselves locally, playing Rockfest 2018 in Asheville, NC, and touring through 5 states between Florida and Kentucky.

In the three years they have been a band, they have reached 2300 followers on Facebook, played over 160 shows, released a live album, recorded live on air on 88.5 WMNF and have been finding people that really dig the music they make.

In August 2019, they entered the studio to record their debut LP at Audibility recording in Tampa, FL. The main goal being they wanted it to sound genuine and to make it an awesome, real, and emotional experience for the listener and through all of their blood, sweat and tears they hit their mark. The album drops in April!

In this interview spotlight, I chat with members of the band about the singles from the album, technology, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We are originally from Spokane, WA, Tony and I, but are now living in Central Florida where found Jason, our drummer. We are a Tampa band and we write soulful, grungy, bluesy female fronted rock music. Lyrically it is typically emotional by nature. We are real, raw and authentic.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

Well, I knew early on it was what I was going to do. Granted it took until I was almost 30 to start actually doing anything. I think for each of us it is different. Tony found comfort and safety in his guitar and Jason I believe was just naturally inclined to be good at drums. What keeps us going at this point seems to be beyond us. Sometimes I don’t know why we keep pushing and others I do, but I, personally, am at a point where I am not sure what else there would be. So we heading in the direction of more and bigger.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

This is actually our first ‘real’ release. We did drop a Live album in 2017, but we never really expected that to do anything or mean anything to anyone. We were so new. This is the first time we will be showing our people what we have crafted, honed and the growth we have gone through since we started playing out 3 years ago.  I want to have something that represents who we are now on the internet. That is what I want from my direction. Looking outward, I hope that there is someone who feels better because they relate to the words and know that they are not alone in those feelings. That would a dream come true.

Listen on Spotify.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

The biggest challenge I would say is the amount of time it takes to really try to push our music out there. That and weeding through the snakes, since there are a lot of people that want to try to prosper off of artists backs. Without technology, I am not sure we would be doing very damn much as band. It has been the gatekeeper of information to learn, the way we have found so many gigs, how we keep in touch with those who care and yeah, everything is hinged on technology.

What was the last song you listened to?

‘Dirt’ by Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

Honestly, I have never listened to vinyl, so I going to have to say CD’s. I love flipping through the big books too; the sound and the feel just do it for me.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Spotify because it seems easier to use.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
