Interview with Connie – Remember

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman February 27, 2018 9:21 am Tagged With: R&B, Soul

Connie

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Connie about motivations, challenges, the latest release and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music would you classify yourselves as?

I think I fall in several genres. Some of my influences include Lana Del Rey, Marina and the Diamonds who both are considered Dream Pop. I dance on the fence of that genre, pop and trap RnB which is a “new” genre made popular by artists like Sza and Bryson Tiller.

What led you down the path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

The first body of work I listened to as a kid was Keith Sweat which was a CD my sister would listen to on replay. I loved the melodies, play on words and story telling. Over my teens I would write lyrics and date wannabe rapper guys so I could get free studio time. I let it go by the time I reached 19 and decided to focus on establishing stable cashflow. The itch resurrected about a year and a half ago and since then I’ve been a writing machine.

How is “Remember” different than your previous releases? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

Remember is an emotional song. I consider myself a non-chalent and sometimes evasive person so to write a song that’s so emotional is as if it’s in music that I’m able to express my emotions.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age?

I’m very new to this. This single is my first official release with the monetary investment so I can’t say much about “the struggle”.

How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?

I do everything online. You can reach a lot of people online, I wouldn’t have a career (business/music) without the internet. I can record a song at home and send it to my producer and two days later I have a finished song. I can reach my supporters in different countries and get immediate feedback.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
