Happy Holidays to you and yours! In this interview spotlight, I catch up with Dani Felt to chat about her Christmas release, AI in music, favorite artists, and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Let’s get this hot topic out of the way from the start. What are your feelings on AI as a creative tool? Have you experimented with it? Or released any projects where it was used?
Hi! My feeling on AI is that AI can be a great tool for artists. I have not personally used AI for songwriting yet.
What is your earliest music memory? Or a moment that sticks out for motivating you to write, record, and release music?
One of my favorite memories is when I went to an overnight camp and recorded a song I wrote in the studio when I was fourteen years old. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be an artist. Before that I was just singing musical theatre and pop covers and writing poetry. That summer changed my life.
What’s up with this latest release? Any cool back-stories, bloopers, or notable inspirations?
This song was originally written for a film pitch from a music library. The song didn’t get selected but then I decided to release it anyway. I had my mixer Dallas make some changes to make it more on brand for my sound. We recorded this in one day!
What keeps you going, especially on the “bad” days?
Listening to personal development podcasts, surrounding myself around good support, working with coaches and listening to musical theatre to lift my mood.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why?
Taylor Swift, I just feel like we would vibe. We both love the number 13, we both are female leaders in the music space as well as songwriters.
I know it’s hard…but favorite song (or artist) of all time? Or Top 3 if you can’t choose one…?
This is such a hard question! Probably any broadway songs! Defying Gravity is one of my favorite songs!
