Interview with Danny Rose

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman January 6, 2020 10:59 am Tagged With: Acoustic, acoustic folk, Australia, Folk, singer, songwriter

Danny Rose

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Danny Rose about his latest music, technology, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create ?

I’m from a little town in Australia called Deception Bay, I play Folk Music, Blues Music and Country

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

I’ve been pickin’ the guitar since I was 11 years old, my family always played so I naturally picked it up from them… eventually I discovered Blues and I just never looked back. Robert Johnson, R.L Burnside, Howlin’ Wolf .. I was just obsessed. I like the way they just sat there and gave it their all, no production just a man, a guitar, taking on the world. So I guess that’s why I play the way I do, after later discovering the likes of Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Josh Okeefe and more , man, I just wanted what ever it was they had… that look in their eye.

What keeps me goin’? That ringin’ of an old guitar string pickin’ in a dark room down in my heart… love it.

How is this new release different from previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

This was my first release so it was pretty nerve racking. I didn’t know what people would think but I’ve had quite a few good reviews and made some damn good friends along the way.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie artist in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you?

I think the challenge of exposure has been the hardest thing for me but in the industry we’re all trying to claw our way to the surface trying to get heard.

Technology has definitely helped me, I’ve been able to reach out to other artists and people in the same position and make some killer friends and a few fans even along the way.

What was the last song you listened to?

The last song I listened to was R.L Burnside – Just Like A Bird Without A Feather .. an old Blues song

Which do you prefer? Vinyl?, CD’s? MP3s?

Same as most people I’d say… Vinyl. It just gives you a certain sound that you can’t get from other devices I guess

How about this one…. do you prefer Spotify?, Apple Music? Band amp? Or something else? And why?

I mean Bandcamp is great for unsigned artists, you know, it’s free. I suppose I like them all for their own reasons, Spotify seems to be my most popular streaming service so that’s where I promote my music.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

Definitely Instagram, I’m always posting snippets of songs and photos from around town.

Anything else before we sign off?

I’m currently working on a new album which I’m hoping will be released next year (2020) so keep an eye out for that, otherwise thanks so much for the interview man I appreciate it.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
