Interview with Deepanshu Ruhela – Told You

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 6, 2021 10:31 am Tagged With: Asia, Central Asia, Hip Hop, India, Pop, R&B

Deepanshu Ruhela

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Deepanshu Ruhela about the latest music, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

Hey This is Deepanshu and i am from India. I make New school Hip Hop.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

I always wanted to do something which can put me in a limelight and my attraction towards music just grown throughout the years and i decided to follow this goal and started making music. i think thought of bigger picture and success keeps me motivated plus i feel more myself when i make music so it keeps me positive and it keeps me motivated at the same time.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

I used to do Hardcore Hip Hop thing before but in 2020 Pandemic i tried to explore a little more about music and Hip Hop and artists like Travis Scott, Drake, Roddy Richh gave me inspiration to ride the new wave they created and since it is something new for Indian audience i followed their cadence and made “Red Road” Song is based of on my Imagination of following the Red Road which is evil but at the end of the road i find the peace and heavenly place which i was looking for.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

I think family support wasn’t strong in the beginning but now they do and i think lack of money was also one of the biggest challenge and it is still now but that’s okay cause it makes me wanna find more ways to keep doing what i am doing right now.

What was the last song you listened to?

Middle Child By J Cole
