Interview with The Dirty Earth – Aurora

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman October 3, 2017 9:08 am Tagged With: Australia, hard rock, Rock

The Dirty Earth-Aurora

The Dirty Earth are an original rock outfit from Sydney, Australia. A biting blitzkrieg of chugging distorted guitars, flecked with powerful, velvety vocals.

In this interview spotlight, we chat with the band about influences, the latest project, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and a stream of their Aurora album below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We are based in Sydney Australia and have been kicking around for over 6 years now. We are a blues based rock band with elements that touch on stoner, doom and good ole rock n roll.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

We all have a love of 70s rock n roll and our mission is to capture the essence of the classic era of rock music but give it a modern twist.

How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

Suppose the main difference is we have recorded Aurora with our new Singer Tenille Rogers who gave this album a more bluesy feel with her astonishing vocals performance. We spent an extra day mixing this time round so the songs are probably more polished than previous recording. The other albums were more on the stoner rock side where as Aurora saw us moving back to our blues root.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?

There are many challenges we face, the online world is a two edged sword. Its a great platform to get our music out there but we have found that within hours of releasing our music it is available on multiple torrent sites which means we are missing out on some online sales, in saying that platforms us as Band Camp are sensational for bands like The Dirty allowing us to showcase our music and provide access to streaming and downloads for our fans worldwide.

Where can we connect with you online and discover more music?

Anything else before we sign off?

Thanks to all the fans out there, we really value the support from far and wide we have received over the years. We have already started working on new songs and hope to share them with you in the future. Take Care from Down Under.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
