Singer-songwriter Edwina van Kuyk (‘kow-k’) returns with her most personal project to date — Feels So Right, a three-track EP that traces the journey of learning to let go, trust your gut, and find beauty in life’s chaos.
Rooted in themes of surrender, friendship, and self-trust, Feels So Right captures van Kuyk’s evolution as both an artist and a person. “Life doesn’t always make sense,” she shares. “But when something feels right, you have to go with it.” The EP is sonically rich and emotionally grounded — a fusion of nostalgic vocals, soulful grooves, and radiant melodies. Each track carries a warmth and polish resulting in a sound that glows with both vulnerability and confidence.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Edwina about the new release, AI in music, dream collabs, and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Let’s get this hot topic out of the way from the start. What are your feelings on AI as a creative tool? Have you experimented with it? Or released any projects where it was used?
Eeeekkk! I’m uneasy around the idea of AI & music but I don’t want to be a complete luddite either. I’ve seen it being used in sessions but I haven’t personally used it in my own music. I do feel like you lose the magic if it doesn’t come from you, as a human. I work as a songwriter though, outside of my own music, and we used AI in one session to manipulate my vocal to pitch to a KPOP band. That was actually really fun, and I think if it’s used for demos or to get an idea across, it can be really helpful.
What is your earliest music memory? Or a moment that sticks out for motivating you to write, record, and release music?
I know that the first song I wrote about was missing my sister. She was gone away to a camp for a few weeks and it came naturally for me to put it into a song. I had no idea what possessed me to do it, but I didn’t stop writing after that.
What’s up with this latest release? Any cool back-stories, bloopers, or notable inspirations?
There’s so much I could say about this EP. I’ve had so many years of listening to other peoples opinions on my music (producers, collaborators etc.) And I really trusted what everyone else was saying, but I got to a point where I realised I was the only person who knew what my music was really about, and how to go about sharing it. Once I had this realisation, everything moved really fast. I’m now leaning into trusting my gut on everything and that’s where ‘Feels So Right’ was born. My new barometer with my music is, if it feels right, go for it!
What keeps you going, especially on the “bad” days?
There are definitely times I’ve thought I wasn’t going to ever realise my ambitions with music but recently those days are few & far between. I just try to be kind to myself on the bad days though. It’s usually just myself putting pressure on me & nobody else. So I tend to take a step back, breathe & then get right back to it the next day.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why?
At the moment, I would really love to collaborate with JP Saxe. I love his melodies, his lyric writing, and his honesty. That would be a dream!
I know it’s hard…but favorite song (or artist) of all time? Or Top 3 if you can’t choose one…?
My favourite artist is James Morrison. He’s the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place & he’s still an artist I adore listening to. He got me hooked really young on the power of an artist’s voice. I tend to connect with a voice before a song, an artist or anything else. It’s instantaneous & I guess it comes back to that feeling of trusting your gut if something feels right.
Where’s the best place to connect with you?
I appreciate your time. Any last thoughts before signing off?
Thanks so much for giving me the platform to talk about my music, and hopefully you can take something away from ‘Feels So Right’!
