Interview with Omer Goren – Electrockrat

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman April 26, 2018 2:01 pm Tagged With: Alternative, electro rock, Electronic, Israel, Middle East, progressive rock, Rock, singer, songwriter

Omer Goren-Electrockat

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Omer Goren, aka Electrockrat, about his latest project, motivations, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I’m from Tel Aviv, Israel. I would characterize my style as a combination of electronic and acoustic sounds, drawing from multiple genres, including indie, electronic rock, space rock, alternative, chill out and a touch of psychedelic.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

I started playing guitar when I was 13 years old and haven’t stopped since, but I chose music as my profession in 2012 when I recorded the first two instrumental pieces of my indie rock project Electrockrat – On The Edge and Teenage Vibe.

The main thing that motivates me on a daily basis is my big passion for creating music and knowing that I’m working as a musician, just like I dreamt of since I was a child, and also lately I’ve started producing for other artists as well and the idea I’m living and breathing music 24/7 is what really keeps me going.

Who are your musical influences and the message you are trying to convey with your music?

My main influences are artists like Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Muse, Air, Enigma and The XX.

My aspiration in my musical creation is for the listeners to experience a multi dimensional journey of harmony, melody and rhythm that will take them to a different world.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

First of all, in this new release, Ready To Leave, I’m featuring the singer/songwriter Roi Levi, a very well known and respected musician in Israel. Another difference is this release has a more dream pop vibe, compered to the more rocky sound of the other releases, but it still touches upon more alternative elements that are a  big part of the project Electrockrat.

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

Although we live in a digital age that makes content more accessible, still as a independent artist, with a low budget it’s really hard to keep and stay ahead of everyone else. I have to work daily on promoting myself on social media, creating new content, and trying to always stay on the radar of the music industry and the listeners.

Technology today makes it easier for me to distribute my music independently to digital stores, blogs and magazines that have a large crowed of followers and customers, and to build my own websites and content pages.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

Basically you can find my music all around the web but here are some links to my websites, social accounts, pages on top digital music stores & music stream engines:
