Interview with Encore

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 14, 2018 11:57 am Tagged With: Canada, Pop, pop rock

Encore

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Encore about their latest project, motivations, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style pop do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We are from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Our style of pop is one that is very unique to us, and it is one that changes a lot. We don’t really have only one style that we play, and we love that about our music. It can be fast, slow, melodic, and anything else we want it to be. Classifying it into genres, I would say it is pop with a lot of funk and rock influence.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

Our entire lives we have been listening to rock, pop, funk, and every other style of music. It has helped us form our own sound and develop into the artists we are now. From Elvis Presley to Aerosmith to Michael Jackson to Maroon 5, listening to these artists growing up have all influenced us in different ways and formed us into a band that writes and plays music in all different sorts of ways to show all different emotions and stories. What motivates us has always been the people we perform in front of and the ones that listen to our music. When we see that one of our songs are really connecting with people or at a live show the crowd really likes a certain part of the concert, it makes us feel so right and gives us this drive to continue doing what we love to do.

How is “Feeling” different than previous releases? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

“Feeling” has always been one of our special songs. It was one that we love to perform live and always are finding new ways to make it better and for us to have more fun on stage. It really shows our maturity and growth as a band. We knew starting the production different ways to make it sound so different yet so original to our personal way of playing and make it sound similar but also very unique in comparison to the live version. We really wanted to show our diversity as a band and really wanted to push this single further than the last one. Looking back, we were wanting to display our talents in the studio a lot more as well in the vocals, instrumentation, and songwriting.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?

Technology has been a major tool for our success. We have used social media in particular a lot and really tried to connect with fans via instagram, snapchat, etc. If used properly, it is a great way to adapt and to develop personal relationships with your audience outside of performing live for them.

Where can we connect with you online and discover more music?

We have instagram, snapchat, twitter, facebook, all under the same username: @encore_bnd. You can find our music on iTunes, Spotify, YouTube, and other streaming websites as well by looking up Encore and our two singles will be there. We are constantly uploading new acoustic covers or contests on our socials as well so be sure to check it out!

Anything else before we sign off?

Our EP is coming very soon! We will be releasing some singles before as well, so stay tuned for all of that! We can’t wait share it all with everyone and hear the feedback to all of it. Thank you for the interview, we’re so happy that you like our new single “Feeling!”
