Interview with Fortunato – The Coalition

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman September 1, 2024 10:25 am Tagged With: Canada, Hip Hop, rap

Fortunato X The Dirty Sample-The Coalition

In this interview, I chat with Fortunato about AI in art, dream collabs, the latest music, and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

This AI thing is getting way out of control. I have students using ChatGPT to write death metal songs about country music…and country songs about being sad. You can feed some Ais a text prompt and create a Hollywood-quality short film. How do you feel about this new wave of technological innovation?

I am actually disgusted by AI. RA Rugged Man used it to design artwork for his new singles and I find that deplorable. Also saw a bunch of it in the Apple movie Argyle and it’s absolutely stomach turning. This stuff has no place in art, medical advancements and other purposes sure, but not in art.

I know it’s hard…but what’s your favorite song and/or favorite artist of all time? If not favorite, in your top 3?

My favourite song of all time is Nessun Dorma by Luciano Pavarotti. Fav artist would be Bob Marley.

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific or different with this project? What’s the back story?

I’ve always wanted to work with The Dirty Sample. I’ve been admiring his work from afar and simping over his production for years. Probably one of the longest and most arduous collaborative projects I’ve ever been a part of so the main goal was just to complete it and release it.

What drives you to create? What keeps you going, especially on the bad days?

The beats keep me going. Hearing new production that rivets me is what sparks my writing. I can’t create in silence, it needs to be spurred by the beat.

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? Please plug them with a link so readers can check them out.

I would love to collab with Nems (@nems_fyl) cause he’s the closest rapper to Sean P and Sean P is my favourite rapper of all time.

Where is the best place to stay connected with You?

I appreciate Your time. Want to say anything else before we sign off?

The Coalition drops in June so make sure to cop that on Hand Solo Records.
