Interview with Geron – Plans

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman December 6, 2018 5:00 am Tagged With: Georgia, R&B, singer, songwriter, Soul, United States

Geron

In this interview spotlight, I chat with singer/songwriter Geron about her latest release, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

Georgia is home for me, but I was actually born in Alabama so either way you can say I’m a Southern belle. My music is a mixture of Pop and R&B. I didn’t want to limit myself to either so I decided to incorporate both.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

My parents always surrounded me with music growing up. Every time they turned on the radio I couldn’t help but sing and dance (there’s actual footage of that.) I honestly don’t know what my life would be like without music at this point; it’s become a part of me so that is why I continue to put my heart and soul into it. Even if I wasn’t fully pursuing music it would still be a part of my day to day life.

How is “TBH” different than previous releases? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

“TBH” was my moment of breaking away from everyone’s opinions about me and living my own life. I was able to show a more edgy side of myself because I tend to write a ton of love songs. I think that “TBH” had been building up inside of me over time and I was finally able to let it out. We tend to bottle everything up inside instead of expressing how we truly feel.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?

I think in this digital age it is so easy to get lost in the shuffle, because so many people are putting out so much content every day. On the other hand, technology has been beneficial because I can touch so many people across the globe just from making music and videos out of my basement.

Where can we connect with you online and discover more music?

I post a lot of content on my Instagram and Facebook @Justgeron, and my music is also available on all streaming platforms under Geron.

Anything else before we sign off?

Thank you.
