Interview with Glass Bandit – Ghost

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman November 14, 2022 8:17 pm Tagged With: alternative rock, Funk, indie rock, Rock, rock n roll, Texas, United States

Glass Bandit-Ghost

An 8-piece powerhouse band based in Austin, TX, Glass Bandit has evolved into a force of hard funk. In addition to releasing their latest single, Ghost, the band has been captivating audiences throughout the midwest and across the country, crafting an unforgettable live show in preparation for the release of their first full length album.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Glass Bandit about the music, their writing process, motivations and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

What is something you would like readers to know about your latest project?

We are really excited that our single “Ghost” is finally here! This was a song that took us out of our comfort zone but it is so much fun to play and we are happy that others can hear it for themselves.

How does Ghost compare with your other releases? Was there anything specific you were trying to accomplish?

Ghost is definitely of oof the harder hitting songs that we have released so far. The energy that this song gives us is what drove this song during the writing phase and a great guitar solo.

What motivates you to create music?

The ability to create art is a beautiful thing. The process of writing and arranging and seeing what types of feelings we can draw out of people, especially performing in front of different crowds. Seeing that someone is taking some type of emotion away from one of our songs is an amazing feeling.

What is your writing process like as a band?

Everything we write is a collaborative effort, meaning one person would bring an idea or chord progression or groove and we all sit and figure out how this fits our sound and we work together through each part of the song from the groove to the lyrics to the horn arrangement and that is how our songs are written and ready to play.

If you guys could collaborate with anyone- dead or alive, famous or unknown, who would it be and why?

There were a lot of different answers between each member of the band, but the people that came up the most were Allen Stone, Bruno Mars, and James Brown just to name a few.

What is the best place to find you and stay connected?

You can find us on Instagram @glassbanditmusic and on Tiktok @gbmusicoffical

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
