Interview: Glimmerjean & Goode

by Leslie Sherman February 4, 2025 2:43 pm Tagged With: singer, songwriter

Toronto-based rock n’ soul duo Glimmerjean & Goode debut their first single, “Rosavelle,” a playful and uplifting track inspired by early 60s soul. Written as an ode to carefree fun and independence, “Rosavelle” blends vintage guitar riffs with bursts of horns, channeling an irresistible and unique energy.

The song tells the story of Rosavelle, a lovable rascal and free spirit who won’t be tied down.

“Rosavelle” originated on a beat-up guitar Scotty had salvaged for decoration. Before retiring the guitar, he wrote the opening and chorus riff—just before its flaws became irreparable. It’s now displayed proudly in their garage as a reminder of the track that is starting it all.

What can you share with readers about your new project?

It is a confluence of many musical styles. We are going to explore a lot of different vibes and genres in this project. We have no idea where it is going to land but we are fully enjoying the ride.

How does this release compare with your other projects you had in the past?
Despite singing since the age of 2, this is Linny’s first ever release. Scotty has been in many bands before, but none like G&G.

What about this single makes you most proud?
I think it is because it’s my first ever single release. I was so scared to release music before, and now I am baffled – WHY did I wait so long!?

Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?
None in particular. We just wanted to play more shows, make more music and get our name out there. This song is the catalyst to that.

What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
It is a creative outlet. Without music life gets pretty boring. It keeps us going through it all.

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
This is always a hard one to answer. Mama Cass? Janis Joplin? There are too many to name. Alive – Karen O?    (SBG) – Fogerty, Hetfield, or Buddy Holly.

What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
The last song I listened to was “Pretending” by my friend Goldie Boutilier. If you do not know her yet, check her out. Fave artists/bands – JJ Cale, Creedence, Mamas & the Papas, Otis Redding, Joe Walsh – so many to name.

Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?

I really appreciate your time. Is there anything you’d like to share before we sign off?
Please stay tuned and follow along. There is lots to come!
