Veteran songwriter Greg Boyer shares “Perfectly Gone,” a spare, thoughtful folk-pop reflection shaped by restraint, atmosphere, and emotional economy. Inspired by a breakup and written during a period immersed in rockabilly and folk influences, the track feels less like a lament and more like a moment of calm acceptance; an acknowledgement rather than a reckoning.
“There’s no big story behind the title,” Boyer says simply. “The two words worked well together.” That same directness defines the song itself. Built around repetition rather than escalation, “Perfectly Gone“uses its title as a subtle anchor; a quiet hook that reinforces the song’s emotional stillness rather than pushing toward resolution.
- What can you share with readers about your new project?
Perfectly Gone is the title track of a new album that I’m making with producer Malcolm Burn. A good deal of the songs are built with a deep atmospheric approach. - How does this release compare with your other projects you had in the past?
Our previous album “Fall For Love” was recorded similarly and most always done in no more than 3 takes. - What about this single makes you most proud?
Whenever I listen to the track, I have a nice sense of calm remembrance. The tempo and bridge section were new to the song and it was pretty cool that they fit so nicely. - What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
I am constantly thinking of melodic phrases and motifs which could be expanded upon and later used as song melodies. The motivation is to hear the tiny fragments become a full melody. - If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
Collaborating is a tricky project. I have written with others but rarely do the results have any lasting effect. - What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
I find it best for me to listen to my own internal rumblings and not lean on other artists for my poetics or melodies. I do like Van Morrison though and listened to his “Madam George” recently. I listen to many genres of songwriters and think there’s something from everyone that sticks. - Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?
The best place to find me is at home. I work full time and write after work. - I really appreciate your time. Is there anything you’d like to share before we sign off?
Stay in touch and when the new album is complete, I’ll give you a holler. Thanks for your interest and appreciate you taking time to listen. Cheers!
